A two-month voyage through Australia is being halted following the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a isolated island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The vessel left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A major hunt discovered her body the following day.

Officials are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that passengers and crew on the vessel were informed that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated statement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Master" preventing any new passengers from entering the ship.

The representative said that they would inspect the liner in the Australian city upon its return.

The liner first departed the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Family Reaction

The child of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and distressed that the liner left the location after an organised excursion without my mum".

In her statement, she portrayed her mum as an "active elderly person" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking organization.

"According to scant details we have been provided, it seems that there was a lapse of responsibility and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have saved Mother's life".

"We understand from the police that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mum became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.
